YouTube Expands AI Editing Tools and Shopping to 35 Countries
The platform unveiled Gemini-powered video editing, live auto-dubbing for 2027, and broader affiliate commerce access at its Made on YouTube event.
YouTube rolled out a comprehensive set of creator tools at its Made on YouTube event Wednesday, combining AI-powered editing capabilities with a significant expansion of its commerce infrastructure.
The platform's Shopping affiliate program will reach 35 countries by year-end, up from its current footprint. More than 1.3 million creators have already enrolled in the program. Amazon products will become taggable by creators in India and Brazil, with the system automatically displaying localized offers based on viewer location.
AI-powered editing arrives in Shorts
YouTube is introducing conversational editing tools powered by Gemini for both Shorts and the YouTube Create app. The system guides creators through common editing tasks including trimming pauses and reordering clips to improve pacing.
YouTube Studio is gaining several new capabilities designed to streamline the production process. Creators can now request feedback on early drafts, generate thumbnails that match their channel's established style, and run A/B tests on up to three different video cuts to measure audience retention. That A/B testing functionality will extend to Shorts starting in 2027.
Dynamic Thumbnails represents another algorithmic approach: creators can submit multiple thumbnail images and let YouTube's systems determine which version to show each individual viewer. Ask Studio, the platform's AI assistant for creators, is expanding to mobile applications.
Live features and content moderation
The platform is piloting a voluntary AI comment-moderation system that adapts to individual creator preferences over time. YouTube is also combining voice and facial detection in its likeness-protection tools to improve match accuracy, with likeness detection capabilities coming to mobile devices.
Live auto-dubbing will enter testing in early 2027. The feature translates what creators say into other languages in real time, allowing international audiences to follow along in their preferred language. A new Live Showdowns feature enables creators to merge streams for competitive broadcasts, with viewers able to send Super Chats to support their chosen creator.
Viewer-facing changes
On the consumption side, YouTube is introducing Custom Feeds for U.S. users across web, mobile, and TV platforms. The feature allows people to create personalized homepage tabs using conversational prompts. The Ask YouTube feature is adding shopping queries, including product-comparison tables and follow-up questions within a video's watch page.
Shorts will gain a series format that lets creators organize clips into seasons and episodes. That feature began rolling out Wednesday.
Why it matters
YouTube's simultaneous push into AI editing tools and expanded commerce infrastructure reflects the platform's strategy to compete on two fronts: reducing production friction for creators while building revenue streams beyond traditional advertising. The 35-country shopping expansion positions YouTube to capture a larger share of social commerce, particularly as creator-driven product recommendations increasingly influence purchasing decisions. Live auto-dubbing, if executed well, could significantly lower language barriers that currently limit international audience growth for English-language creators.
