Rockwell Links Plex QMS to VisionAI for Automated Inspection

Rockwell pushes AI-driven quality control
Rockwell Automation has connected its Plex Quality Management System to FactoryTalk Analytics VisionAI through an API-enabled integration, the company announced. Available from Aug. 11, the pairing is designed to bring AI-powered visual inspection capabilities to manufacturing environments and support what Rockwell calls its "industrial autonomy strategy."
The integration allows manufacturers to deploy machine vision for defect detection and anomaly identification while maintaining serialized inspection records and traceability. According to Devin Burke, group product manager at Rockwell Automation, the goal is to enable systems that "learn, adjust and collaborate across software, hardware and workers" rather than relying solely on pre-programmed routines.
Expanded AI capabilities in Plex
Alongside the VisionAI integration, Rockwell introduced Connected Worker, an expanded AI feature within Plex. The tool converts CAD files and technical documentation into step-by-step work instructions, aiming to bridge the gap between engineering data and shop floor execution.
Plex also now includes a Reporting and Analytics AI agent that generates real-time dashboards, surfaces operational risks, and supports conversational queries. The agent is intended to help plant managers and quality teams make faster decisions by predicting issues before they escalate.
