Netflix has disclosed that generative AI workflows were used across approximately 300 titles in 2026, marking a dramatic acceleration in the technology's adoption across mainstream entertainment production.

Netflix highlighted three specific productions that incorporated generative AI: the Indian title Glory, Brazil's Brasil 70: A Saga do Tri, and the American documentary series The American Experiment. In each case, AI tools were used to create or enhance crowd scenes, recreate historical battles, and build establishing shots for fictional and historical environments.

Co-CEO Ted Sarandos noted that The American Experiment contains 17 minutes of AI-enhanced footage. Those sequences were produced twice as fast and at half the cost of conventional methods. Without AI tools, some scenes would have been cut entirely due to budget and schedule constraints.

Rapid scaling from experiment to standard practice

The pace of adoption has been striking. In 2025, Netflix publicly identified a building-collapse sequence in The Eternaut as its first generative AI footage to reach final production. Eyeline Studios completed that effect approximately 10 times faster than traditional visual-effects methods, according to Sarandos. Just one year later, AI workflows are appearing across hundreds of titles.

Netflix now uses the technology for concept development, previsualization, and other production phases. The company operates Eyeline, an animation lab, and recently acquired InterPositive, a filmmaking-focused AI company co-founded by Ben Affleck. Sarandos stated that savings from these workflows will be reinvested in additional programming.

Production guidelines and guardrails

Netflix has established rules for production partners using AI tools. Partners must disclose intended AI use to Netflix in advance. Final footage, talent likenesses, personal data, and third-party intellectual property may require written approval. The company's guidelines prohibit generating or replacing performances and union-covered work without consent and appropriate agreements.
