Gartner's business process automation guide frames this blended model—AI agents, deterministic automation, and human steps—as the new normal. If plant APM programs expand into operations and production use cases, ownership broadens. That typically means more stakeholders and more integration dependencies, but it can also mean more stable funding because the program ties directly to throughput, yield, and continuity rather than maintenance KPIs alone.

Evaluation questions for 2026

Plant and IT teams evaluating APM vendors that offer role-based agents should clarify what specific actions each agent can initiate and where human approval is enforced. They should understand identity, access, and audit requirements for agents, and whether those logs export into existing enterprise monitoring or GRC tooling. Integration scope for year one—CMMS/EAM, MES, historian, SCADA views—and the vendor's standard integration approach versus custom services will determine whether aggressive payback claims are plausible in a given environment.

Measurement frameworks should span reliability and operations: response time to alerts, completed corrective actions, avoided downtime events, and production continuity metrics. Augury's framing suggests more operations stakeholders will expect operations-facing metrics.
