Investment builds on recent Series A

American Express's venture capital arm has invested in Fazeshift, a San Francisco-based artificial intelligence platform that automates financial operations for enterprise teams. Amex Ventures announced the backing on August 11, 2026, positioning the move as support for Fazeshift's expansion beyond its current accounts receivable focus into a broader autonomous finance suite.

The investment follows Fazeshift's $17 million Series A round completed in May 2026, which was led by F-Prime and included participation from Gradient, Y Combinator, Wayfinder, Pioneer Fund, and Ritual Capital. That financing brought the company's total funding to $22 million. Details first reported by Crowdfund Insider indicate the new capital will fund product development and team growth.

How the platform works

Fazeshift deploys autonomous AI agents that execute complete accounts receivable workflows rather than simply flagging issues or providing recommendations. The agents generate invoices, reconcile payments, manage collections, and coordinate communications across existing enterprise software including ERP systems, CRM platforms, email, and payment tools.

The company's approach addresses a persistent pain point in corporate finance: accounts receivable operations remain labor-intensive, often involving manual spreadsheet work, fragmented email threads, and disconnected systems that delay cash collection and consume staff time. By handling these tasks end-to-end, Fazeshift's agents aim to improve cash flow and free finance professionals for higher-value strategic work.

Why it matters

The Amex Ventures investment signals growing institutional confidence that AI agents can meaningfully transform core finance functions, not just assist with them. For enterprises struggling with cash flow delays and operational bottlenecks in AR, autonomous tools that integrate with existing systems offer a path to efficiency gains without wholesale technology replacement. The backing from a major financial institution also suggests alignment with broader shifts in B2B payments and the role of agentic AI in how money moves through organizations.

Expansion plans

"This investment lets us move faster on our mission of giving finance teams their time back," said Caitlin Leksana, CEO and co-founder of Fazeshift. The company describes its roadmap as building a full "CFO suite built for autonomous finance," extending its agent platform into additional finance operations areas while refining its accounts receivable capabilities.

Margaret Lim, managing director at Amex Ventures, said the firm is "excited to be backing Fazeshift as they continue to assemble a strong team and build out an expanding suite of agentic capabilities to modernize finance operations."

Prior to the Amex investment, Fazeshift reported strong revenue growth and adoption among enterprise clients, though specific customer names and metrics were not disclosed. The partnership provides Fazeshift not only capital but potential strategic alignment with American Express's payments infrastructure and corporate customer base.

The details of the investment were first reported by Crowdfund Insider.
