314e Corporation has released an Explanation of Benefits document workflow automation module within its Dexit intelligent document processing platform. The module delivers 90% or higher extraction accuracy across more than 30 complex data attributes and achieves 95% or higher document classification accuracy, according to details first reported in a company announcement.

The technology addresses a persistent challenge in revenue cycle management: EOB documents arrive with wildly inconsistent formatting across payers, often bundling multiple claims and accounts into single faxed or scanned files with no standardized table layouts.

Why it matters

EOB processing has remained a manual bottleneck in healthcare billing because every payer designs these documents differently. Before automation tools reached this accuracy threshold, billing staff had to manually sort pages by claim before reconciliation could begin—a time-intensive process that delayed payment posting and increased labor costs. Solving this variability at scale removes a significant operational friction point.

Technical approach to multi-payer variability

The module reads claim numbers and account numbers on each page, automatically splitting multi-page batches into separate records based on those identifiers. This sorting capability handles the jumbled scans that billing teams encounter daily.

Dr. Srivatsan Sridhar, Head of Data Science at 314e, said the company validated the module against real-world EOB documents spanning multiple payer formats rather than clean, single-format test sets. Core data points exceed 95% precision, he noted.

The system ships as a purpose-built template where clients select which fields to extract without requiring custom builds for individual payers. Reviewers see extracted data in a table view alongside source pages.

Workflow integration and oversight

Every document processed through the AI system undergoes human review before finalization, with full audit trails maintained. This review layer addresses accuracy gaps and compliance requirements while still reducing the time required to process each document.

The module joins 314e's broader healthcare IT portfolio, which includes Jeeves for EHR training, Muspell Archive for FHIR-native data archiving, and Veritable for real-time eligibility verification. The company has served more than 250 health systems and payers since 2004.
