SoundHound positions for restaurant automation growth

SoundHound AI is making a concerted push into restaurant automation with its newly launched OASYS platform, a self-learning agentic AI system designed to deploy across drive-thrus, kiosks, phone orders, web interfaces, and chat channels. The platform allows restaurants to build and continuously improve AI agents with reduced deployment time and minimal manual intervention.

According to Zacks Investment Research, the company reported that AI-enabled drive-thru locations for a major quick-service restaurant customer generated higher revenues than comparable stores without the technology. SoundHound is also seeing cross-selling momentum among restaurant customers and growing adoption of its Voice Insights analytics platform, suggesting initial deployments are expanding.

The company's first-quarter 2026 results showed 52% year-over-year revenue growth to a record level. Management reaffirmed full-year revenue guidance of $225 million to $260 million. SoundHound ended the quarter with approximately $216 million in cash and no debt.

LivePerson acquisition to expand capabilities

SoundHound's planned acquisition of LivePerson aims to combine voice AI with digital messaging capabilities, enabling restaurants to offer seamless customer interactions across voice, text, and chat. The transaction is expected to create cross-selling opportunities and broaden the company's enterprise customer base, though integration execution remains a risk factor.

Why it matters

Restaurant automation represents a significant market opportunity as operators seek to improve order accuracy, reduce labor costs, and enhance customer experience. SoundHound's differentiated voice AI technology and agentic platform position it to capture share in AI-first restaurant deployments, particularly as the industry moves beyond basic digital ordering to more sophisticated conversational interfaces.

Competitive landscape intensifies

SoundHound faces substantial competition from established restaurant technology providers. NCR Voyix operates an extensive ecosystem spanning point-of-sale systems, payment processing, kiosks, and digital ordering, with deep relationships across major restaurant chains. The company is expanding its conversational AI capabilities to compete directly in voice-enabled ordering.

Par Technology offers a comprehensive cloud-based platform including restaurant management software, digital ordering, loyalty programs, and analytics serving thousands of locations. Both competitors are embedding more automation across their software suites as AI adoption accelerates.

Despite the competitive pressure, SoundHound's stock has declined 34.2% year-to-date. The company trades at a forward price-to-sales multiple of 11.18, slightly above the industry average. The consensus estimate for 2026 shows an expected loss of 18 cents per share, wider than the prior year's 13-cent loss. SoundHound currently carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold) rating.
