Snowflake Revenue Beat Shows AI Driving Core Platform Growth

Enterprise software stocks rallied after the data cloud company attributed half its growth acceleration to AI products integrated with existing workflows.

Enterprise AI spending extends beyond infrastructure

Snowflake reported second-quarter results on September 2 that sent ripples across the enterprise software sector, with CEO Sridhar Ramaswamy revealing that AI products accounted for roughly half the company's growth acceleration. The data cloud platform posted 37% product revenue growth to $1.49 billion and raised its fiscal 2027 product revenue target from $5.84 billion to $6.07 billion.

What distinguished this earnings report from typical AI infrastructure wins was the nature of the growth. According to analysts, Ramaswamy's comments suggested AI demand is expanding usage of Snowflake's core data platform rather than simply driving adoption of separate AI add-ons. UBS analyst Karl Keirstead noted that these figures, combined with strong growth at Palantir and Databricks, provide concrete evidence of robust enterprise AI adoption.

Why it matters

For the past year, AI investment has concentrated on chips, data centers, and cloud infrastructure. Snowflake's results demonstrate that AI spending is now flowing through to application-layer software companies that sit closer to end customers. This shift validates the business case for AI beyond hardware manufacturers and suggests enterprise software platforms with deep data integration are positioned to capture meaningful revenue from AI adoption.

Software sector responds

The market reaction was immediate and broad. Enterprise software stocks including ServiceNow, Atlassian, Adobe, and Intuit climbed between 3.5% and 6% the day following Snowflake's announcement. The iShares Expanded Tech-Software ETF rose 3% on the same day.

Salesforce saw particularly strong gains, though its momentum had already begun a week earlier. The CRM giant reported second-quarter fiscal 2027 results on August 26 showing revenue of $11.35 billion, up 11% year-over-year, with adjusted earnings per share of $5.90 against a consensus estimate of $3.27. Current remaining performance obligations increased 14% to $33.5 billion. The company did record $2.61 billion in net gains on strategic investments during the quarter, which contributed $2.53 per share to non-GAAP earnings.

Alongside its earnings, Salesforce and Anthropic announced Claudeforce, an expanded partnership that integrates Salesforce data, workflows, and business logic directly into Claude through a plugin featuring 37 prebuilt sales skills. The companies indicated plans for additional integrations across Claude, Salesforce, and Slack.

Pattern emerges around data integration

Taken together, the Snowflake and Salesforce results point to a specific pattern: enterprise AI adoption appears to increase the value and consumption of established software platforms when AI capabilities connect to existing corporate data and workflows. Rather than replacing incumbent systems, AI tools integrated with enterprise data repositories are driving expanded usage of those platforms.
