Nokia and Microsoft integrate data platforms for AI network automation

Nokia and Microsoft have launched an integrated solution that combines their respective data management capabilities to accelerate AI-enabled network automation for telecommunications operators.

The offering pairs Nokia Data Suite with Microsoft Fabric, creating a pipeline that extracts network data from siloed systems, standardizes it with TM Forum-aligned semantics, and stores it in a centralized repository accessible to AI applications. The solution is available as fully hosted, hybrid, or on-premises deployment and supports multi-vendor network environments.

Why it matters

Telecom operators have struggled to operationalize AI beyond pilot projects, largely because network data remains fragmented across proprietary systems and lacks the standardization needed for machine learning models to function reliably. By addressing the data foundation layer, this partnership tackles a fundamental bottleneck preventing autonomous network operations at scale.

Initial automation use cases

Nokia outlined three go-to-market applications for the integrated platform. The first is autonomous voice over new radio (VoNR) assurance, where AI agents detect anomalies, perform root cause analysis, and recommend corrective actions based on comprehensive network, service, and subscriber data.

A second application called geo-experience uses AI and machine learning to map radio access network subscriber sessions to precise geographic locations, identify users experiencing degraded performance, and pinpoint coverage or capacity issues. The system correlates this information to diagnose problems and suggest remediation.

The third use case focuses on predictive maintenance and fault management, analyzing historical and real-time data to anticipate network issues before they affect customers.

"Telecom providers are ready to move AI from experimentation into everyday network operations, but that requires trusted data, strong governance and platforms that can scale," said Silvia Candiani, corporate vice president for worldwide telco and media at Microsoft.

AI-RAN platform gains traction

Separately, Nokia reported growing operator engagement with its Nvidia-based AI-RAN platform. A1 Group, Chunghwa Telecom, Du, e&, Mobily, STC, TPG Telecom, and Zain Saudi Arabia have deployed proofs of concept or conducted live trials of the technology.

"AI is reshaping the future of telecommunications and creating a significant opportunity for operators to rethink the role of the radio network," said Emma Falck, Nokia's president of mobile infrastructure. The company positions AI-RAN as foundational technology for the eventual 6G era.
