Meta AI Now Handles Recurring Tasks Without Step-by-Step Prompts

Meta AI gains autonomous execution capabilities

Meta disclosed Friday that its AI assistant can now take on certain tasks independently, marking a shift from conversational AI toward autonomous execution. The new capabilities, powered by the company's Muse Spark 1.1 model, allow Meta AI to generate personalized morning briefings that integrate calendar information and handle recurring responsibilities such as weekly meal planning or trend monitoring.

The features are rolling out initially through the Meta AI app and meta.ai in select markets. Meta plans to expand availability to additional countries and platforms, including WhatsApp. Users retain control over how much autonomy they grant the assistant, and an incognito mode remains available for private conversations.

Meta has deliberately engineered Muse Spark 1.1 for agentic and task-execution scenarios. The model launched earlier this month through Meta Superintelligence Labs alongside a public developer API. The pricing strategy suggests Meta is competing aggressively for the enterprise automation market, where recurring tasks and workflow integration represent significant cost-saving opportunities.

In its announcement, Meta characterized the development as "our next step toward personal superintelligence: an AI that knows your context, is there for you whenever you need it."

Marketplace automation expands

Meta also introduced a standalone Seller app for Facebook Marketplace merchants on Friday. The iOS application consolidates listing management, buyer communications, and performance analytics in a single interface. Meta AI powers the listing creation process, generating suggested titles, descriptions, pricing, and categories from uploaded product photos.

The Seller app is currently available through the App Store for U.S. users aged 18 and older, with a web version in testing. Facebook Marketplace processes more than 430 million listings monthly and serves over 1.1 billion active users, making it a substantial commerce platform where AI-assisted listing creation could materially reduce friction for sellers.

Meta is scheduled to report second-quarter financial results after market close on July 29.
