John Deere has introduced JD, an artificial intelligence assistant integrated directly into its Operations Center platform that allows farmers to query their operational data using natural language. According to Jahmy Hindman, chief technology officer at John Deere, the assistant shifts the experience from "navigating through a sea of data to simply asking it a question." Farmers can pose queries such as how fuel consumption during tillage compares across multiple years, which sprayer operator covers the most acres per hour, or when historical trends suggest optimal harvest timing.
How the assistant works
JD generates responses using only the data already stored in a farmer's Operations Center account. Jackson Baca, group marketing manager of Digital Foundation at John Deere, emphasized that the system provides answers specific to each operation rather than generic recommendations. "JD helps you get answers, discover insights, and take actions based on your field, your machines," Baca said.
The assistant can analyze complex relationships in operational data—for example, comparing singulation performance across different field zones and correlating those variations with yield outcomes.
