Huawei Technologies will introduce two new artificial intelligence chips in 2027 as the Chinese technology company intensifies efforts to compete with Nvidia in AI computing hardware. Rotating chairman David Wang announced the 960DT will arrive in the first quarter of 2027, followed by the Ascend 960PR in the third quarter.

Huawei has developed 11 semiconductors based on UnifiedBus technology for deployment in large systems. The company's largest configurations, which it calls superclusters, can support up to 1 million AI processors, Wang stated. Most advanced AI applications require more processing power than a single chip can deliver, making interconnect technology essential for practical deployment.
The company has already shipped more than 1,000 smaller linked systems—termed supernodes—to over 370 customers. Wang did not disclose customer names, specify how many chips each supernode contains, or provide a shipment breakdown.
Developer Ecosystem and Market Position
Huawei faces an established competitor in Nvidia, whose hardware and software tools have become industry standards among developers worldwide. Building a strong developer community will be critical for Huawei to make its hardware accessible and useful. Wang said Huawei's AI chip ecosystem currently has 5,270 monthly active developers.
U.S. export restrictions have paradoxically helped Huawei emerge as a prominent domestic supplier of AI chips in China. The Washington-imposed controls aim to limit China's access to certain advanced computing chips and semiconductor manufacturing equipment, part of broader U.S.-China competition over the technologies underpinning artificial intelligence.
For Chinese technology companies, the ability to connect chips has become increasingly important.
