Google Search Console AI Reports Now Available Globally

The rollout includes impression data from AI Overviews and AI Mode, plus an opt-out control for site owners concerned about traffic.

Google has completed the worldwide rollout of its generative AI performance reports in Search Console, according to updates posted to the company's official documentation. The feature, which began testing with UK websites in June, now provides impression data from AI-powered search features to site owners globally.

The reports track how often a website appears in three AI-driven surfaces: AI Overviews, AI Mode, and generative AI features in Discover. Data can be filtered by page, country, date, and device type for Search results. However, the reports do not yet include click-through data, leaving a significant gap in understanding the actual traffic value of these AI impressions.

Phased deployment still in progress

While Google's documentation states the rollout completed on August 31, 2026, the company's help pages acknowledge that access is still rolling out. Some Search Console properties may not display the reports yet, particularly sites that haven't generated sufficient AI impressions to warrant inclusion.

The AI reports launched alongside a property-level opt-out control that allows website owners to exclude their content from appearing in AI Overviews, AI Mode, and Discover's generative features. This toggle, located in Search Console's Settings section, prevents both traffic and impressions from these surfaces. Google has stated the opt-out choice does not function as a ranking signal in standard search results.

The opt-out mechanism is separate from Google-Extended, the robots.txt token that governs whether content can be used for AI model training.

Why it matters

The absence of click data in these reports creates a blind spot for site owners trying to assess the business impact of AI search features. Impressions alone don't reveal whether AI-generated answers are driving traffic or simply displaying content without meaningful engagement. This limitation makes it difficult for publishers and businesses to make informed decisions about whether to opt out of AI features, especially when weighing potential visibility against uncertain traffic outcomes.

The UK's Competition and Markets Authority has already flagged this gap. As part of conduct requirements issued in June, the regulator has set a March 2027 deadline for Google to add click-through data and implement page-level opt-out controls that offer more granular choices than the current property-wide setting. Google must also submit compliance reports every six months during the first year.

Regulatory pressure shaped the feature

The timing of the initial launch was not coincidental. Google announced both the reports and opt-out control on June 3, the same day the CMA issued its conduct requirement. That regulatory action mandated that Google provide websites a way to opt out of AI search features without facing penalties in traditional search rankings.

The feature began appearing on accounts outside the UK in July, and the global rollout is now marked as complete in Google's official documentation.
