DataSnipper Launches Alwin for Multi-Step Audit Automation
New agentic platform executes complete audit procedures end-to-end while maintaining traceability to source documents.
DataSnipper has introduced Alwin, an agentic automation platform designed to execute complete audit and finance procedures from start to finish. The platform processes hundreds of documents from multiple data sources while maintaining links between every conclusion and its supporting evidence.
Unlike task-specific automation tools, Alwin handles multi-step workflows that span evidence collection, verification, and reporting. The system returns completed workpapers with all outputs tied to source data through what DataSnipper calls "Snips" — maintaining an audit trail that supports review and regulatory requirements.
Why it matters
Audit and finance teams face mounting pressure to process larger volumes of work without sacrificing accuracy or defensibility. Alwin addresses a fundamental constraint: professionals spend significant time on repetitive procedures that could be automated, but regulatory requirements demand complete traceability. By automating entire workflows while preserving evidence chains, the platform could shift how firms allocate skilled labor — moving professionals from document processing toward judgment-intensive work.
Early adoption shows efficiency gains
Firms testing Alwin during its design partner phase reported substantial time savings. CROP Accountants & Advisers saw their cash-testing workflow accelerate by approximately 80 percent, condensing hours of manual work into minutes of agent runtime plus human review.
At Rehmann, testing across revenue transactions and inventory costs revealed how the platform might restructure audit workflows themselves. "Alwin represents a significant step forward in how audit work can be performed," said Raul Villamil-Otero, Manager Assurance & Financial Reporting Strategic Business Partner at Rehmann. The system prepares work, flags items requiring attention, and generates potential client questions — potentially giving junior staff earlier exposure to reviewer responsibilities.
BDO Czech Republic has developed dozens of agents to test evidence across various audit procedures. The firm sees potential to run work in parallel in the cloud while reducing manual Excel processes, according to Lukas Homola, Manager of Internal Audit Methodology.
Platform architecture and governance
Alwin operates on three core principles, according to DataSnipper. First, agents execute complete procedures across multiple steps and hundreds of documents. Second, all conclusions remain linked to source evidence with visibility into both agent and human changes. Third, the platform provides firm-scale governance including an agent library, granular access controls, and configurable review workflows.
The platform maintains DataSnipper's existing security model, which the company says is trusted by thousands of organizations including Fortune 500 companies, government agencies, and all Big Four audit firms. In 2025, DataSnipper reported delivering more than $1.4 billion in productivity savings across its user base of professionals in 175 countries.
DataSnipper CEO Vidya Peters positioned the launch as an evolution rather than a replacement of professional judgment. "Alwin is the next step: agents can now take on complete procedures, not just individual tasks, while the professional stays in control of the work that requires judgment," Peters said.
The platform name references an auditor named Alwin who years ago described to three friends in Amsterdam how repetitive manual work consumed much of his professional life — a conversation that led to DataSnipper's founding.
These details were first reported by DataSnipper in a September 22, 2026 announcement.
