Crusoe targets massive raise to fuel AI infrastructure expansion

Crusoe Inc. is in discussions to raise $3 billion in new funding at a $30 billion valuation, according to sources cited by Bloomberg on Thursday. The deal would represent a threefold increase from the company's 2025 valuation and reflects surging demand for purpose-built AI data centers.

The report did not identify potential investors in the round, though late-stage financings typically attract existing backers. Crusoe's previous funding included participation from Nvidia Corp., Salesforce Ventures and more than a dozen other investors. The company has secured $2.77 billion in total capital to date.

Why it matters

Crusoe's valuation jump signals investor confidence that modular, rapidly deployed data centers can capture significant market share as AI companies race to secure compute capacity. The company's ability to deliver facilities in months rather than years addresses a critical bottleneck for AI development, particularly as hyperscalers and foundation model developers compete for scarce infrastructure resources.

Building for the AI giants

Crusoe constructs data centers for major technology companies including Microsoft Corp., Oracle Corp. and OpenAI Group PBC. Meta Platforms Inc. has also signed on as a customer, with contracts for two Crusoe facilities under construction in Texas and Missouri, Bloomberg reported.

The company's marquee project is a 1.2-gigawatt data center cluster in Abilene, Texas, built specifically for OpenAI. The site serves as the ChatGPT developer's largest Stargate campus. In June, Crusoe announced that two of the eight planned buildings had become operational.

Modular approach accelerates deployment

Crusoe's business model centers on prefabricated modules that arrive complete with server racks, power management systems and cooling infrastructure. The company also provides grid connection services and other deployment support.

The hardware ships with Command Center, a management platform that automatically detects server failures and provisions replacement machines. The software leverages Kubernetes and Slurm, an open-source automation tool, to orchestrate hardware resources.

Crusoe claims its integrated approach can deliver new data centers in months instead of the multi-year timelines typical for traditional construction.

Expanding production capacity

Beyond third-party infrastructure projects, Crusoe operates its own AI-optimized public cloud offering graphics cards from Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices Inc. The platform includes Edge Zones—compact cloud facilities positioned near end-users for latency-sensitive applications.

In March, the company opened a manufacturing facility dedicated to producing the prefabricated modules that form the foundation of its data centers. At the time, Crusoe said the plant would begin shipping modules in the second quarter. The reported $3 billion funding round could accelerate production scaling at this facility.

Bloomberg first reported the details of Crusoe's fundraising discussions.
