Finance leaders gain real-time visibility into AI costs

CloudZero has introduced AI Signals, a platform designed to give finance and transformation leaders detailed visibility into AI spending across models and providers. The solution categorizes AI costs in real time by individual user, team, and specific business activity, according to an announcement from the company.

The platform addresses a growing challenge as AI adoption expands beyond engineering departments into sales, marketing, finance, and support functions. While AI spending continues to climb, traditional reporting methods leave executives unable to explain what their investments produced or how to forecast future costs.

How the platform works

AI Signals captures AI events as they occur and connects them to the people and activities that generated the costs. The system categorizes spending across more than 35 business activities, including prospecting, code review, content drafting, and campaign analysis.

The platform includes two primary capabilities. An Overview dashboard consolidates spending across providers, models, and departments, showing which teams are spending, which individuals are driving costs, and which code repositories the activity traces back to. A Monitors feature alerts teams when AI consumption deviates from established patterns, identifying the specific people and work behind the change.

Scott Castle, Chief Product Officer at CloudZero, said the solution gives finance leaders "the evidence to back their people, and the confidence to defend the spend that's working."

Why it matters

The timing reflects broader enterprise struggles with AI budget management. Wharton's 2025 AI adoption report found that 82% of enterprise leaders use generative AI weekly, with adoption spreading into HR, finance, and legal departments. McKinsey research indicates AI spending increases nearly fourfold as companies scale beyond isolated use cases, and 93% of organizations already exceed their AI budgets. Without granular visibility, many companies resort to spending caps that limit both overspending and innovation potential.

Privacy and technical integration

CloudZero built the platform with a privacy-by-design architecture. Usage data is consolidated and enriched within the customer's own environment, and no prompt or session data leaves the customer's virtual private cloud.

The platform supports multiple inference providers including Anthropic, OpenAI, Google Vertex and Gemini, AWS Bedrock, and Fireworks. It also integrates with gateways and proxies including LiteLLM and Bifrost, as well as direct OpenTelemetry.

Dan Carducci, VP of Finance at CloudZero, noted that AI had been "the most evasive line" in his forecast. "Now I can see the context behind the spend and which team did it, which means I can forecast the line instead of guessing at it," he said.

AI Signals is available immediately. Details were first reported by CloudZero in a company announcement on September 23, 2026.
