Caterpillar has formed a partnership with FieldAI, a California-based robotics company, to accelerate the deployment of physical artificial intelligence and autonomous systems across construction and mining operations.

The collaboration builds on the vision Caterpillar presented at the Consumer Electronics Show in January, where the heavy equipment manufacturer outlined its strategy for autonomous technology in industrial settings. FieldAI founder and CEO Ali Agha said the companies are positioned to shape "the next century of AI-enabled heavy industry." He noted that Caterpillar's operational environments align with FieldAI's capabilities, pointing to deployments the company has already completed across hundreds of sites globally.

Initial applications target inspection and productivity

The partnership's early deployment phase is expected to focus on autonomous inspections, real-time operational insights, and productivity improvements delivered through simulation, automation, and AI-driven analytics. These applications represent practical starting points that can demonstrate value before expanding to more complex autonomous operations.

"Collaborations like this help accelerate the journey. We're focused on applying AI where it matters most," Mineart added.

The partnership represents a significant commitment by Caterpillar to integrate advanced autonomy into its product ecosystem, potentially reshaping how heavy equipment operates on industrial job sites in the coming years.
