At the opposite extreme, the model projects GDP growth accelerating to more than seven times its current rate—accompanied by unemployment reaching nearly 14%, with fewer than half of displaced workers finding new positions.

Anton Korinek, Anthropic's head of transformative AI economic studies, emphasized that adoption speed will prove decisive. "If the AI can do amazing things but nobody uses it, then it's not going to have an economic impact," he noted.
Policy implications of extreme growth
The most aggressive growth scenarios in Anthropic's model would generate unprecedented tax revenues, potentially enabling large-scale support programs for displaced workers. Clark suggested that policymakers should prepare for fiscal options currently beyond imagination. "If you end up with this level of GDP growth, you have moves available to you as a policymaker that are unimaginable today," he said. "Policymakers should get ready to spend."
