Anthropic in talks to acquire Decart AI for $6 billion

The Claude maker is pursuing AI infrastructure capabilities as it prepares for a public listing and works to expand computing capacity.

Anthropic is in discussions to acquire Decart AI, an Nvidia-backed startup specializing in AI infrastructure and optimization technology, according to a source familiar with the negotiations. The deal could be valued at approximately $6 billion, Bloomberg News first reported.

The potential acquisition comes as Anthropic, maker of the Claude AI assistant, prepares for what is expected to be a major public offering and works to address capacity constraints across its services.

What Decart brings to the table

Decart develops AI infrastructure and optimization technology alongside its own AI models. The startup's Lucy model can edit live video in real time, while its Oasis model generates simulated environments used to train and test robotics and autonomous-driving systems.

According to the source, Decart's capabilities could help Anthropic absorb increased demand for its AI services. If the deal closes, Decart's team would join Anthropic's inference and performance organization.

Decart raised $300 million in May in a funding round led by Radical Ventures, with Nvidia joining as a new investor. The current acquisition talks are in an early stage.

Why it matters

This potential acquisition signals Anthropic's strategic shift toward vertical integration as it scales. Rather than relying solely on third-party infrastructure providers, Anthropic appears to be building internal capabilities to optimize performance and manage costs—critical factors as AI companies face pressure to demonstrate sustainable unit economics. The move also reflects broader industry consolidation as leading AI labs compete to control the full stack from model development to deployment infrastructure.

Preparing for public markets

The acquisition discussions align with Anthropic's broader preparations for a public listing. Last week, the company announced it was hiring engineers with experience across hardware and software to help co-design custom chips and AI models aimed at making Claude run faster and more efficiently.

These moves suggest Anthropic is working to address one of the AI industry's most pressing challenges: the computing power and infrastructure needed to serve rapidly growing user bases while maintaining performance and managing costs.

Neither Anthropic nor Decart responded to requests for comment on the potential deal. Reuters first reported additional details about the acquisition talks.
