Strong Quarter Driven by High-Growth Segments

Rockwell Automation reported third-quarter fiscal 2026 results that exceeded expectations, with organic sales climbing 10% year-over-year as demand accelerated in semiconductor manufacturing, data centers, and warehouse automation. The industrial automation provider raised its full-year outlook following the performance.

Reported sales increased 8% overall, with the dissolution of the Sensia joint venture reducing sales by 3 percentage points and currency effects adding approximately one point. Adjusted earnings per share reached $3.49, up more than 20% from the prior year, while enterprise operating margin expanded to 22.3%.

Chairman and CEO Blake Moret attributed the results to the company's North American market position, expanding exposure to emerging end markets, recent product launches, and its partner network.

Why It Matters

Rockwell's performance highlights a bifurcated industrial automation market. While semiconductor fabs, hyperscale data centers, and e-commerce fulfillment operations are investing heavily in automation infrastructure, traditional manufacturing sectors remain cautious. This divergence signals that AI-adjacent industries are pulling forward capital spending while process industries wait for clearer demand signals—a pattern that could define industrial technology investment through 2026.

Segment Performance Shows Clear Winners

The company's Software & Control segment delivered 18% organic sales growth, reflecting strong demand for its programmable logic controllers and industrial software platforms. E-commerce and warehouse automation sales surged 30%, driven by continued investment in fulfillment center automation.

Products outperformed longer-cycle solutions businesses during the quarter, as customers favored smaller modernization projects over large capital deployments. Rockwell noted that broader capital spending recovery in food and beverage manufacturing and certain process industries has yet to materialize.

Raised Guidance Despite Headwinds

Rockwell increased its full-year fiscal 2026 sales growth outlook to a range of 7.5% to 9.5%, up from previous guidance. The company also raised its adjusted earnings per share forecast to $13.00 to $13.30 while maintaining targets of 21.5% operating margin and 100% free cash flow conversion.

Management identified inflation, memory component costs, and delayed large capital projects as ongoing risks to the outlook. The company's ability to expand margins while navigating these headwinds reflects operational discipline and favorable product mix shifts toward higher-margin software and control systems.
