Reflection AI secures massive compute capacity from SpaceX

Reflection AI has signed a multi-billion dollar agreement with SpaceX to access computing infrastructure at the company's Colossas 2 data center, according to details first reported by CNBC and confirmed by Reuters.

The open-source AI startup will pay SpaceX $150 million per month starting July 1, 2026, with the contract running through 2029. If the agreement reaches its full term, total payments would amount to approximately $6.3 billion.

Under the deal, Reflection AI gains immediate access to Nvidia GB300 chips—specialized processors designed for training and running advanced AI models. The Nvidia-backed startup acknowledged the agreement in a LinkedIn post, stating that "more compute gives us more room to push the frontier on open models," though it declined to provide additional details.

Contract flexibility built in

The agreement includes an exit clause allowing either party to terminate with 90 days' notice after the first three months. Neither SpaceX nor Reflection AI responded to Reuters' requests for comment about the arrangement.

SpaceX shares declined 10.6% in afternoon trading following the announcement.

SpaceX expands its data center business

The Reflection deal represents the latest in a series of commercial agreements positioning SpaceX as a major player in AI infrastructure. The company recently announced a deal with Google worth $920 million monthly from October 2026 through June 2029, with capacity ramping up at reduced fees through September. SpaceX has also secured agreements with AI startup Anthropic.

These partnerships mark a significant expansion of SpaceX's business model beyond its core aerospace operations. The company went public on June 12, 2026, and appears to be leveraging its Colossas 2 facility to capture growing demand for AI computing capacity.

Why it matters

The deal highlights the intense competition for computing resources as AI companies race to train increasingly sophisticated models. For startups like Reflection AI, securing guaranteed access to high-performance chips addresses one of the industry's most critical bottlenecks. For SpaceX, these multi-billion dollar contracts create a substantial new revenue stream and demonstrate how companies with capital to build large-scale infrastructure can monetize the AI boom. The $6.3 billion commitment also signals Reflection AI's confidence in sustained demand for open-source AI development over the next three years.

Reuters first reported the details of the agreement on June 22, 2026.
