Oracle reported more than $30 billion in new AI cloud contracts during its fiscal first quarter, pushing total remaining performance obligations to $664 billion, according to details first reported by Reuters on September 10. Institutional investors have increased exposure to both companies. Insider Monkey's hedge fund database shows 119 funds held Oracle at the end of the second quarter, up from 115 in the first quarter. Nvidia ownership rose to 285 funds from 275. Short interest remains modest: approximately 2.8 percent of Oracle's float as of August 14, and only about 1.2 percent for Nvidia.

Valuation presents the primary challenge. Oracle is increasingly priced as an AI infrastructure growth story rather than a mature database vendor, while Nvidia already reflects years of dominant accelerator economics. The difference lies in execution risk. Oracle must convert contracted demand into acceptable returns on invested capital, while Nvidia primarily needs to defend margins and its ecosystem position.
