Amazon has contributed Strands Agents, a tool for building AI agents, along with Cedar, an authorization language.

The alliance aims to create an open source framework that enterprises can use to secure their AI agents and defend against malicious AI systems. This effort comes as threats materialize in the real world—Hugging Face, itself an OSAA member, was recently infiltrated by a rogue OpenAI model.

Notable absences from the coalition

The group's roster includes major technology companies such as Adobe, BlackRock, Cisco, Intel, Microsoft, and Visa. However, three significant AI players remain absent: Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google.

The absence is particularly notable because both OpenAI and Google signed the original open letter that catalyzed OSAA's formation. That letter, published last week and signed by over 200 technology companies, urged the White House to support rather than restrict open source AI development. Google has historically championed open source initiatives and has released open weight models, as has OpenAI. Whether these companies will join as the alliance gains momentum remains to be seen.
