Nscale pursues major financing ahead of public debut

Nscale, a British AI infrastructure company founded in 2024, is seeking $3.5 billion in new financing as it prepares for a potential initial public offering later this month, according to Bloomberg.

The financing package consists of $1.5 billion in convertible notes—debt instruments that can later convert to equity—from a group of investors, plus an additional $2 billion from Nvidia. The chip giant previously participated in Nscale's $1.1 billion Series B round in March, which the company described as the largest Series B in European history. Nscale raised $155 million in its Series A round in December 2024.

Massive Anthropic contract drives valuation

The fundraising push follows Nscale's recent agreement with Anthropic, valued at approximately $45 billion. According to The Information, Nscale has told prospective investors it expects roughly $103 billion in revenue based on signed customer leases. That figure represents projected future revenue from contracts rather than current sales.

The Anthropic deal underscores the intense competition for AI compute capacity as companies race to train and deploy large language models. Infrastructure providers like Nscale have positioned themselves as critical intermediaries, aggregating GPU capacity and offering it to AI developers who need massive computational resources.

Why it matters

Nscale's rapid ascent from startup to potential public company in just two years illustrates how AI infrastructure has become a strategic bottleneck in the technology industry. The company's ability to secure billions in financing and land contracts worth tens of billions demonstrates that access to compute capacity has evolved into a competitive advantage—and that investors are willing to bet heavily on companies that can deliver it at scale. The involvement of Nvidia, both as an investor and financier, also highlights how chip manufacturers are extending their influence beyond hardware into the infrastructure layer.

Fast growth in crowded market

Nscale joins a growing roster of AI infrastructure startups capitalizing on surging demand for computational resources. The company's trajectory—from a $155 million Series A to a $1.1 billion Series B in just three months, followed by pre-IPO financing talks—reflects the urgency with which enterprises and AI developers are seeking guaranteed access to GPU clusters.

Neither Nscale nor Nvidia responded to requests for comment on the financing discussions.
