Nokia has launched Cognitive Operations, a commercially available platform that integrates mission-critical communications, edge computing, and operational AI into field-deployable systems designed for mining, public safety, and defense organizations.

The platform centers on the Cognitive Edge Node, a ruggedized network and compute system that combines advanced connectivity, AI-driven multi-access networking, and GPU-accelerated edge computing. Three vertical-specific applications

Nokia is releasing Cognitive Operations with tailored versions for distinct markets. The mining application delivers the full AI platform through resilient communications and can be deployed on-premises or through Microsoft Azure Marketplace, enabling setup within days according to the company.

For public safety and emergency services, Nokia introduces a "Vehicle as a Node" concept where response vehicles equipped with Cognitive Edge become autonomous intelligence and communications nodes. Police cars, fire trucks, and ambulances can self-organize into distributed field intelligence networks at incident scenes, sharing live 3D situational awareness while processing video analytics locally across 5G, Wi-Fi, and satellite connections.

The defense version extends the platform to tactical military operations, transforming vehicles and forward assets into secure, self-organizing nodes within distributed tactical networks. Forces gain unified situational awareness through on-device AI for sensor fusion, video analytics, and threat detection while maintaining communications across multiple channels in contested environments.
