HPE expands unified storage with autonomous monitoring

HPE has released version 10.6.0 of its Alletra Storage MP B10000 platform, delivering on commitments the company made in May when it previewed the update. The release extends the system's disaggregated architecture to support six controller nodes instead of four, introduces agent-based support automation that runs continuously against array telemetry, and embeds real-time ransomware detection directly into both block and file access paths.

The B10000 separates controller compute from capacity shelves, allowing organizations to scale performance and storage independently rather than purchasing both together as traditional dual-controller arrays require. With 10.6.0, clusters can grow from a single node to six in single-node increments. HPE reports a 50 percent performance gain over the previous four-node ceiling and states that a six-node configuration can tolerate two simultaneous node failures without service interruption. Rather than relying on static threshold alerts that trigger only after metrics breach preset limits, the release deploys specialized agents for detection, analysis, recommendation, and remediation that operate continuously against array telemetry. HPE states the system processes billions of log entries and sensor metrics daily, using GPU-accelerated inference to identify behavioral drift and correlate it with responsible workloads.

HPE provides the example of uneven capacity exhaustion, where aggregate utilization appears healthy while a single process quietly consumes remaining headroom. The agents are designed to catch such patterns early and supply administrators with recommended fixes or, in certain cases, execute remediation autonomously. HPE's documentation clarifies that the remediation agent implements fixes with approval, meaning the autonomous path still requires administrator oversight. Fleet telemetry and control remain within HPE's Data Services Cloud Console, the GreenLake management interface for Alletra systems.

Native cyber resilience across protocols

Data protection in 10.6.0 is integrated into the platform rather than added downstream. The B10000 now executes real-time ransomware detection natively on both block and file access paths, with HPE's Cybersecurity Center of Excellence validating detection against more than 100 common ransomware strains. The release adds continuous security posture monitoring that checks array security configuration in the background and flags drift for audits, while protecting immutable snapshot schedules from alteration.

The platform includes immutable snapshots, integration with SIEM and XDR tools, role-based access controls with multi-factor authentication, FIPS 140-3 compliance, and DISA-approved STIG hardening guidance. HPE Zerto Software provides VM-level inline detection and continuous data protection for application recovery, while the release adds backup APIs and integrated application-consistent backup to HPE StoreOnce for immutable retention without requiring third-party software.
