Experian launches Agent OS to embed AI decisioning in workflows

The credit bureau's new agentic platform integrates risk and identity services into enterprise systems, starting with ServiceNow.

Experian is moving beyond experimental AI into production-grade agentic systems with Agent OS, a platform that embeds the credit bureau's risk assessment and identity verification capabilities directly into enterprise workflows.

The platform represents a shift from standalone AI tools to integrated services that operate within existing business systems. ServiceNow is the first partner, connecting Experian's Ascend analytics platform to its workflow automation environment. According to Vijay Mehta, Experian's chief AI officer, the company has moved past proof-of-concept work into enterprise scaling.

Commercial applications and target markets

Agent OS is not a standalone product but a platform capability supporting commercial offerings. Early adopters are primarily using model risk management services, with initial targets including insurers, financial services providers, and lenders. Other immediate applications include employee onboarding and verification processes.

The ServiceNow partnership gives Experian access to a broad range of business and technology processes, enabling cross-selling to existing customers and reach into new accounts. Any organization using ServiceNow becomes a potential customer for Experian's agentic services.

Security architecture in a regulated environment

Operating in a highly regulated industry, Experian built extensive controls into Agent OS. A common gateway manages all agent traffic, including model selection, prompts, data egress, and policy enforcement. Identity and access management follows a least-privilege model, granting agents only the minimum permissions required for their specific tasks.

The system uses adversarial testing, where one agent validates another's compliance with rules and policies. All agent activity is logged and monitored against regulatory requirements. "No agent can escape into the wilderness without us knowing and without us being able to kill it," Mehta said, as first reported by SiliconANGLE.

Humans remain in the loop for regulated decisions and major yes-or-no determinations. Customer service and back-office processes can operate autonomously, but regulated outcomes retain human oversight.

Technical infrastructure and model flexibility

The platform operates through APIs and a Model Context Protocol server, functioning either with a user interface or headlessly behind other applications. Agent OS can switch underlying models based on workload requirements, using simpler, less expensive models for many financial services tasks rather than costly frontier models.

Experian builds agents using commercial tools including Amazon Web Services' Bedrock alongside proprietary technology. A semantic layer provides consistent data definitions across portfolios, while knowledge graphs connect information for consistent agent use. The company links distributed data assets rather than centralizing everything into a single repository.

A registry and repository make agents, skills, and content reusable across Experian's organization of more than 1,000 data scientists. Testing includes sandbox environments and synthetic data, followed by monitoring of deployed agents.

Why it matters

Experian's Agent OS signals a maturation point for enterprise AI, where agentic systems move from experimental chatbots to regulated, production-grade services embedded in critical business processes. For financial services firms, this means AI can now handle complex decisioning tasks like credit assessment and fraud detection within existing workflows, not as separate tools. The ServiceNow partnership creates a distribution channel that could rapidly scale these capabilities across thousands of enterprises, making AI agents a standard component of risk management and compliance systems. The architecture's emphasis on containment, monitoring, and human oversight addresses the governance challenges that have slowed AI adoption in regulated industries.

Workforce implications

Experian has implemented mandatory employee training on responsible AI use, prompting, and connecting data to tools. Mehta said the goal is to free employees for other work but declined to discuss specific job impacts. The company is positioning AI as requiring workforce upskilling rather than replacement, comparing the transition to the shift toward e-commerce.

Details of the Agent OS platform and ServiceNow partnership were first reported by SiliconANGLE.
