Adobe Premiere Pro adds unified AI media generation interface

New Generative Media tool lets video editors access multiple AI models directly from the timeline without switching apps.

Adobe has redesigned how video editors work with artificial intelligence in Premiere Pro, introducing a unified Generative Media interface that brings AI video, audio, and music generation directly into the editing timeline.

The new workflow eliminates the need to switch between browsers or external applications when generating content. Editors can now select an empty section on any video or audio track and generate context-aware clips without leaving their project, according to details first reported by The Verge.

Multiple AI models in one interface

The Generative Media tool supports several underlying AI models that editors can select based on their project requirements. Available options include Adobe's own Firefly, Google Veo, Runway, Luma, and Kling. This multi-model approach lets editors choose the generator that best matches their creative direction and visual style.

While the individual AI generators themselves aren't new technologies, Adobe's integration represents a significant workflow improvement. The company is addressing a practical friction point: the time and context-switching required to source B-roll footage or audio elements during the editing process.

Audio intelligence features

Premiere Pro is also receiving new AI-powered audio capabilities, currently in beta testing. These tools can separate overlapping speakers in recordings, automatically reduce music volume when dialogue is present (a process called ducking), and independently adjust dialogue levels separate from ambient sound.

Additionally, Adobe is bringing its AI Assistant to After Effects in beta. The feature accepts plain-language commands to reorganize projects, troubleshoot technical issues, and create effects without requiring editors to write code expressions manually.

Why it matters

This update reflects a broader shift in professional creative software: AI capabilities are moving from standalone tools into core workflows. For video production teams, the ability to generate placeholder content or fill gaps without breaking concentration could meaningfully accelerate project timelines. The multi-model approach also signals Adobe's recognition that no single AI generator serves all creative needs—giving editors choice within a unified interface may become the standard expectation for professional tools.
